We use a lot of apps and online programs in our class, here are some that you can use at home, along with programs to help you stay connected to our class.
We use Go Noodle for brain breaks to not only "get our wiggles out" but also to help reinforce concepts with games like whole body spelling and songs about skip counting, patterns, and more. Since the program is free, you can create an account with your student and use it at home.
Lexia is an online literacy program that adapts itself to student need as students go through the program. It doesn't replace instruction but reinforces concepts that we're learning about in class. It also provides me with data that I can use to tailor my instruction to students' needs. Please contact me if you need information about logging in to your student's individual account.
Zearn is an online math program aligned with our math curriculum, EngageNY. It features games to help your child develop basic number sense and I can tailor it to each child's needs. Login information for Zearn was sent home, but please let me know if you have any issues logging in or any questions.
Storybots not only has great interactive educational videos, but also a wide variety of educational games. There is also a mobile app available as well.
Class Dojo is a great way to stay connected to our classroom. Using your individualized login, you can stay up to date on the "wins" your child is having in class, view samples of their work, pictures of them in class, and send and receive messages from me, the teacher.
Tiggly offers paid and free educational tablet apps and games. In class we use Tiggly words with the physical letters, Also available is Tiggly Shapes and Tiggly Numbers but you certainly don't need the physical manipulatives to use these great apps at home.
Duck Duck Moose offers a wonderful selection of paid educational apps that are some of the best I've seen on the market for educational and entertainment value. For those looking for a deal (and really who isn't?!) they offer some great app bundles. Also, keep an eye out since they sometimes offer their apps at a deeply discounted price or even for free!
Scratch Jr. is a free app that teaches your child how to code! In school we play with Osmo coding blocks which are physical versions of the blocks of code students can manipulate in Scratch Jr. Learning coding skills helps students develop creative thinking and problem solving skills, as well as apply concepts we are learning in school, like counting in math, to other disciplines.
